We’re excited to introduce a brand new blog series to the Spokeo Blog: Tech Talent Tuesday. We want you to get to know us a little better, so on the second Tuesday of every month, we’ll be introducing one of our awesomely talented techies at Spokeo. To kick things off, we’re profiling one of the most well-liked and nicest guys in the office, Byron.

Title: Senior Director of Web Application

Your original Title at Spokeo:

Tell us about your job. What do you do?

My job is to make sure that the engineering team is running smoothly and that blocking issues are cleared as soon as possible. At the end of the day we want to create a product we are proud of that provides solid value for our customers. To achieve this goal I attend a lot of planning and architectural meetings, monitor site performance and bug reports, and keep a handle on new features and what is being released each week.

Life before Spokeo:

Before Spokeo I was a software manager at Oracle. It was a large (40k+) organization with over a thousand developers working on my product, so there was an adjustment to a small company with a much more fluid process.

Most interesting Spokeo Project:

There have been quite a few interesting projects, but the one that is most memorable is staying at the office overnight to help facilitate our migration to the cloud. I am thankful that I survived the commute home the next morning 🙂

Favorite Spokeo event ever:

We had a recent “Game of thrones” themed party (that was still family friendly!). There was a throne created from keyboards that looked amazing. What I appreciate a lot about Spokeo is the sense of camaraderie that exists: We enjoy working together and hang out outside of work.

Words of advice:

What has helped me as a manager is striving for the following attitudes:
1) Think team-first, encourage discussion and consensus
2) Use difficulties as a chance to stay humble and thankful
3) Take ownership for what you are responsible for, don’t make excuses
4) Bias towards action and getting things done
