I'm not sure how many of the others posting here are women, but wanted to post my somewhat different experience. I got a call from this number. I should mention that for me, this area code is local. Telemarketers are obviously getting more high tech and spoofing local area codes to increase the odds that people will answer their calls, but on the off chance that this is not the case here, I wanted to post my experience.
Usually telemarketers, even those spoofing numbers or being dialed out via computer, will actually speak or play a recording when they get a live answer. I only answered because we are house shopping and I wasn't sure if it might be a realtor or seller.
I said hello several times, because I could hear someone breathing, but they never said a word. I put my phone on mute and held the line. They continued to sit there breathing into the phone, saying nothing, for just under 60 seconds, then hung up.
Most likely, this is just a telemarketing operator who was taking a nice paid snooze, while the computer connected to his headset continues to make and send him calls. It wasn't the infamous "heavy breather" type of call - just normal human breath.
On the other hand, pretending to be a security system salesman would be a great way for a predator to get someone to tell them all the weak spots and vulnerabilities in their living situation. I happen to be a married mom with seven kids from kindergarten to 18, six of whom are boys, and two of those are already looking down at me when we speak. Plus we have an absolutely awesome alarm system called a Yappy Breed of Dog.
If I were a single woman who was actually considering a security system, I might get a call like that and unthinkingly start discussing how my ground floor duplex has a sliding glass door that worries me, and that I often have to work late and come home alone to an empty place.
Just sayin', ladies. Stay safe. There are worse things out there than annoying telemarketers.
